梅雨 (rainy season)

If you know about Japanese weather, you may be wondering why I am just now posting this latest work. Yes, the rainy season is long over and we are in the midst of summer heat. I had the best intentions to finish this before that happened. I wasn't interested in light and atmosphere in the same way as the Impressionists, but still wanted to try and evoke the feel of that special season. The dreary, soggy, mildewy urban landscape, where the colors all reflect the yellowish gray of the sky and shadows are indistinguishable from light- the only vibrant hues in this sodden palette are the lush greens and flowers of the hydrangea.
